OVERFISHING AND GHOST NETTING
As a result of high demand for fresh fish all over the world combined with new technology in the industry, we are fishing the ocean dry. The improper discarding of the actual netting, fishing line, traps and equipment have become another monumental issue when it ends up back in the ocean and continues to “ghost fish” and/or be ingested by marine animals and birds. My textile collection is made from repurposing collected ghost netting from the coasts of the U.K. and Puerto Rico into new fabrics.
Through actively visiting our coasts and beach cleaning I strive to get this harmful waste off of our beaches and give it a new life within my textiles.
